Chopel Daniel: The KNUST optometry student who sells ’pure water’ to fund his education

.
A 20-year-old Level 500 Doctor of Optometry student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Chopel Daniel, has earned massive admiration, not only for his academic ambition but also for funding his education through the sale of sachet water.

Known in the community as “Doctor H2O”, he began selling water in 2019, after completing senior high school.

With limited financial support, he took it upon himself to work and save towards his university education, he told 3news.com.

“This is what I’ve been doing to support my parents since 2019,” Daniel shared.

“Since I completed SHS in 2021, this has been how I raised money to buy my admission form. I mostly feel shy, but my profit is always worth more than any form of mockery,” he stated.

Beyond selling, he has a mission to inspire other young people as he travels extensively across various markets in Ghana.

He has urged them to find honest means to support their families and resist temptations such as internet fraud and crime.

“I try my best to preach to the youth to be more productive in supporting their parents rather than pulling guns and frauding people,” he said.

Daniel's long-term goal is to establish a water production company, provide clean water for the public and also offer employment to the vulnerable youth on the street.
